Constable Vic Holland has been transferred to another police force after a personal tragedy nearly cost him his job and his new post didn’t seem to be going much better. So when the opportunity arose to apprehend two local tearaways he ignored safety first rules which nearly ended in him losing his life.
However a stranger came to his rescue, but who was this person. The description he could remember only fitted someone who had died in the same building two years previously.
Other events from his past he was not aware of came to light and he had difficulty in deciding if this mind-set was a result of the assault. Until he received written proof to confirm the facts he had refused to accept.
To add to Vic’s injuries he sustained he was told that he had to lose weight and regain his fitness or he would be kicked out of the force. Vic is refered to a former police officer to help him regain his fitness.
A relation of the stranger who saved Vic arrives and first impressions were not favourable but together, they started to unravel the mystery.

Dropping down onto the gravel and shining his torch around once more to find his way in the total darkness Vic found the car on its roof, straddling one of the two railway lines. The lorry must have been travelling at some speed to have pushed the car so far out onto the track, Vic surmised, as there were no signs of the car rolling down the bank he had just scrambled down. The damage to the rear of the vehicle seemed to confirm these thoughts. The boot of the car had been crumpled up so much it had been crushed into the main compartment of the car and the rear window was missing. There was no sign of petrol leaking from the tank but its pungent smell filled the air. As he walked round the back of the upturned vehicle he stood on a mangled piece of metal and shone his torch on the number plate by his feet and froze. He knew the number as well as anyone else would know the registration number of their partner’s car. Vic blinked several times, hoping he had misread the number but he knew it was a forlorn hope.
